The kitchen had been through a lot—it had even survived a flood. The cabinets were damaged, the Formica countertops had seen better days in both design and condition, so while the house sat empty, we knew this was our chance to reimagine it completely. Our contractor and team stepped in and made it happen, alongside incredible work from our cabinet maker.
From the start, LB had a clear vision: a gas stove and a double oven, without sacrificing precious upper cabinet space. Enter the Thor range—the solution that made it all possible. Getting it there, however, was its own adventure. Between a failed delivery and the stress of “curbside delivery,” there were a few moments of real uncertainty.
The cabinets became one of our favorite elements. We loved the natural beauty of the white oak so much that we chose not to stain it—just a simple seal to let the wood speak for itself. Sherwin Williams “Modern Gray” was a warm neutral paint color that worked with the natural light throughout the day.
There were plenty of moments of hesitation along the way—decisions about materials, finishes, and how everything would ultimately come together. It’s one thing to choose pieces individually, and another to trust they’ll work as a whole. In the end, it came together exactly as we had hoped.
And like many renovations, it also included a bit of behind-the-scenes reshuffling—an appliance swap with those from our old home helped everything fall into place just right.
